HSX Speed:
Shortcuts
Wouldn't it be cool if you had a button that you could push that would magically take you anywhere you wanted to go?

Shortcuts
I am always amazed how many web pages and how much clicking thru people are willing to do to get to the webpages that they use most often.
My friend wanted to send an email to his family the other day.
He opened his browser, then went to Google, searched "yahoo log in" and then clicked on the search result and was taken to the yahoo log in page.
An hour later, his family called him on the phone to let him know that they had replied to his email and had sent him a photo he had requested.
He opened his browser, then went to Google, searched "yahoo log in" and then clicked on the search result and was taken to the yahoo log in page. (Sound familiar?)
I use yahoo for email. I click one button on my browser and it takes me to the yahoo log in page.
That is the beauty of 'shortcuts'. One click and you arrive to your destination.
'Shortcuts' are simply permanent bookmarks of your most visited places.
I explained in the last HSX Speed article that one of the great features I found, when I switched to the Firefox browser, was the ability to place shortcuts and shortcut folders on the actual browser:
"Another really useful feature to me is that Firefox allows me to place bookmarks (and bookmark folders) on the browser as a toolbar. You can see in the photo above that I have a HSX Port folder, a HSX Links folder, a HSX Dude folder and even a BOM folder on my browser. These are invaluable to me and save me a lot of time."

HSX Cribs: RazorHawk's Browser
"Hello and welcome to my browser. I am not one to be very flashy, so I have my browser set up for functionality and speed. It might not be the best looking browser out there but it gets me where I need to go and it gets me there fast. Feel free to come in and take a look."
"This browser has made me a lot of money. I made my first $500mill using Internet Explorer. I then made another $200mill while I was on a hiatus from playing HSX. I returned to playing HSX full time in October 2007 and with my Firefox browser I have gone from $700mill to $5.4bill in the last four and a half years."
"Here is what my browser currently looks like:"
"I am currently using Firefox version 11.0. I upgrade it every six months or so to give them a chance to work out the bugs and add on compatibility issues before I start using the latest version that they release."
"I am lucky because my Firefox has some kind of bug that has saved my scheme and keeps the same layout even though I have updated to a newer version (Firefox 11 currently looks different than the above photo). I am a creature of habit and do not care for change, so this makes me happy. My browser has a classic old school 2008 scheme but underneath it is all 2012 high tech."
"Today we are focusing on my shortcuts so I would like to give you the complete tour. I could only fit half of my browser into the photo above and I put red over a shortcut that is of a non HSX and personal nature that we don't need to look at."
"On my shortcut toolbar, I have a folder for 'HSX Port' a folder for 'HSX Links' a folder for 'HSX Dude' and a folder for 'BOM'."
HSX Port Folder
If you are an old school HSX Player, then you know what these links are for, what they do and this screenshot and this entry are solely for you.

HSX Links Folder
Here are my HSX shortcuts. This list of links helps make me fast. I can easily get to HSX and specific parts of HSX very quickly from wherever I am on the internet. One click and I am reading the HSX Boards and checking on the latest postings.

HSX Dude Folder
Here are the shortcuts I use for making The HSX Dude website.
I have a link to each page, so I can check and see what The Dude looks like to visitors and I have a link to my web editor.
I also have a link to The HSX Dude Twitter account and two links for bit.ly (the first bit.ly shortens URLs for use on Twitter and Facebook and the second bit.ly link has a list of all my shortened URLs for later use and also keeps track of how many people have clicked on each link).
"Thank you for visiting my browser. I had a fun time showing you my links and I hope you had some fun too."
"Now get out of here... I have some movies to invest in and some money to make!"

Other Shortcuts
Being fast at HSX isn't just about being fast at HSX. The faster I do everything else in my life, the more free time I get to be fast at HSX and get more things done. I have a shortcut for my local weather, my local theater listings, EAP God, my email accounts, etc... The sky is the limit!
Too Many Shortcuts Will Slow You Down
When making shortcuts and using them, you have to remember to limit them to the things that you use on a very regular basis. Having too many shortcuts will slow you down.
Just pretend you are Rambo. You have a machine gun, a bow and arrows, a pistol and a knife. You are fast, you are versatile, you are mobile, you are lethal in many different settings. What happens if we add a bazooka... just in case? You lose some of your speed carrying the extra weight (for something that you will not use often).
I do not put my movie news websites as shortcuts on my web browser. There are too many of them, they would clutter my browser, they would slow my browser down, and I have a better place for them (that we will talk about at another time).
Shortest Distance Between 'A' And 'B' ? ...1 Click
How many clicks does it take for you to get to your HSX portfolio? How many clicks does it take for you to get to the HSX Movie Board so you can check the latest postings? How many clicks does it take for you to get to The HSX Dude to check the Post Adjust Bond Show on Tuesdays?
It takes me just one click with my shortcuts. I work faster and that allows me more free time to cover more territory; it allows me to read all of the posts on the HSX Boards and to keep up with all the latest movie news. It helps me get to the stocks faster and make timely trades.
